THE WHITE BIRD - By: John Berger Response

Berger began by talking about the white bird and the steps it takes to make it, he goes on to saying that those unfamiliar with the process want to pick it up and check it out, to see the secrets of its making. He describes the making process how they are made of wood, and soaked in water than carved, only using one nail to keep it together. He was describing the qualities of the bird that people would find the most aesthetic emotion
I agree with Berger when he says that he reduced aesthetics to art, I believe many people do this. People don't see the relation between art and the world or nature. I to believe that one can experience aesthetic emotion with the nature we live in. Berger defines art as hope for people, to bring the peace and make them feel one with nature.
What stuck out most for me was when Berger says "Art is an organized response to what nature allows us to glimpse occasionally." It makes me feel like people don't take in the aesthetics of their surroundings enough, so we don't see everything that nature does, we just see what it wants us too.

Jerry Saltz on the Outsider Art Fair — and Why There’s No Such Thing As ‘Outsider’ Art Response

A lot of artist were not being put out into a lot of museums because they were considered 'outsider' art, because they did not receive the proper training because they did not go on to high education. I agree with Saltz that it is time for museums and everyone to accept Outsider art and not make a distinction on what is good art and what is bad art. It's crazy that we still live by these rules,  millions of artists art are not being shown just because they lack education which doesn't mean they lack skill.
'Linda Nochlin wrote  in 1971, asking, "Why have there been no great women artists?" Women couldn't become great artist because they were not allowed to be trained because they were thought to be to pure, and were not allowed to look upon nude bodies. So women were never to be seen "great" and as being a woman I think it is horrible women's skill were being over looked and not accepted.
I think it is beautiful that they made an Outsider Art Fair so all the amazing artist being over looked have a chance to go out and show the world their talent, artwork, and message to the world. Hopefully because of these fairs it stops being called 'Outsider' art, and these artist will be discovered can get their work in the MoMA or any museum and make a name for themselves, other than an Outsider.

This project was folding paper.

WARP First Post

Labels Help You Organize
All blog posts must be labeled with two keywords, which blogger calls Labels. When faculty visits your blog for evaluation purposes, we will use the labels to quickly find your work. If you do not use the keywords properly, we will not be able to find your work. Proper set-up and maintenance of your blog falls under the Research and Participation part of your grade which counts for 30% of the overall semester grade.

Topical Keywords
The first set of keywords correspond to the module we are working in. We will refer to these as topical keywords since they correspond to the topic we are exploring over the two-week periods. Your first group of posts will be labeled under Topic: Creative Impulse since this is the first topic (Topic #1). Here are the topical keywords you will use through out the semester:

Topic: Creative Impulse
Topic: Pattern and Ornament
Topic: Rhinoceros
Topic: Narrative
Topic: Landscape
Topic: Zine

Categorical Keywords
The second set of keywords will organize your posts according to kind. Here are the Keywords you will use for Labels:

Exercises - tag for posts documenting all assigned exercises. The first one will be the paper folding exercise from the first class.

Readings - tag for posts containing your two paragraph responses to the assigned readings. The first ones will be for "The White Bird" and the Jerry Saltz article from Vulture.com.

Small Works - tag for posts documenting all assigned small works. The first blog post labeled Small Works will contain images and accompanying descriptions of the three small works you complete for the Creative Impulse Module (Topic #1).

In-Depth Projects - tag for posts documenting all assigned In-Depth projects. The first blog post labeled In-Depth Projects will contain images (or video if appropriate) and accompanying descriptions of the more robust work you produce in response to the Creative Impulse Module (Topic #1).

Outside Visits - tag for posts containing your two paragraph responses to all required visits outside of the classroom. These include visits we do together as a class [during class time] or individually outside of class time.

Please be sure to use both a topical and categorical keyword when labeling your posts.
